ABOUT JAN JENKINS
Raised for the most part in Quebec, Jan worked and lived in Alberta, then moved to Manitoba in 2008, at first to Dauphin and more recently to Brandon. Since moving to Manitoba her time is spent on creating original art for smaller spaces and wearable art for that unique look. Working in pen and ink, printmaking, acrylics, watercolour and more, Jan explores a variety of mediums in her art. Her work is influenced by the meditative art form of zendoodling along with the intricate patterns and designs found in textiles, decorative tiling and nature. She displays her works in group and solo shows around Manitoba, sells her creations through galleries and online, is a member of several local arts groups, volunteers in the arts, and donates works to charities for fundraising. “My greatest joy is creating visual art from patterns around me – the rhythms of line, shape, color and contrast. I lose myself in the creative process, its flow emerging as visual imagery."
ABOUT HER ARTWORK
These artworks reflect a bit of my creative journey since moving to Manitoba, exploring different ways of creating with pen and ink, printmaking, oil pastels and more. For me the satisfaction and joy I get is from the process of starting with an idea and a blank piece of paper, pushing through the initial stages of mark making, then letting the work take on a life of its own, resulting in something unique and unexpected. I like a very meditative approach to working on my art and applying “what if?” along the way. I hope you enjoy viewing this artwork as much as I enjoyed creating it.
