About the event
Colour Distinctive: Quietude Could it be that art can provide us with the power to access a place of stillness and well being if only for a moment in time? Psychological studies of healing through art have supported this theory. Genevie Henderson and Angela Lillico, the duo of Colour Distinctive, believe in this power to do so as well. Their own experiences creating and viewing art verify this concept. Genevie and Angela have discovered that the painting process is a source of meditation, healing and rest. For both artists, focusing on making art is a productive emotional, intellectual and spiritual journey. In the stillness of their studios they witness these most precious moments as they engage and immerse themselves in the act of creating. They are most grateful for this artistic avenue. In our quickly changing times, we are constantly bombarded with an overabundance of negative stimuli: social media, political uncertainty, climate change, congested population, air, noise and light pollution. Mental health issues such as anxiety and fear are troubling. The search for solace, serenity and inner balance becomes even more urgent for our souls. In this joyous exhibit of beauty, both artists suggest that viewing and contemplating art can fill the human need for hush and silence, transporting us to another time and place, limited only by our imagination. Through this visual and mindful quest, we hope our viewers will enter into a state of quietude. “The places of quiet are going away, the churches, the woods, the libraries. And it is only in silence we can hear the voice inside of us which gives us true peace.” James Rozoff, Seven Stones 2015 June 5 – August 21, 2022 Pavilion Community Gallery, Assiniboine Park Winnipeg MB " Assiniboine Park Conservancy is pleased to support the arts by way of the Community Gallery"
